What is Obesity to you, in defense of fat people

What is Obesity to you?
Obese and overweight people don't deserve the bad rap they are getting. I felt the need to share some of my opinions about the obesity epidemic here today. It is a bit of a rant I suspect if it offends you it should.

Please realize the following rant goes out only to a select group of people. I know that in general people are human caring beings, also realize I am not a hateful person. I am usually a nice guy.

What is obesity to you? When you think of obesity do you automatically think of a lazy person with little self control. Unfortunately this seems to be a recurring tone in today’s society. There is a certain element that seem to believe obese or overweight people deserve scorn and disdain. This attitude is not helpful. I do realize that obesity is becoming an epidemic. I know the health problems associated with obesity are taxing on our fragile health care system. I myself would be classified as obese, but if I am going to be called a name I prefer fat. The point I am trying to make is that obese people are still people. I’m not asking for anything special, I just figure if you see me on the street keep your mouth shut. If you feel the need to say something hurtful don’t.

As I said I am fat I know I’m fat I don’t need a reminder. Contrary to what some may believe I do have self control. An example of my self control, lets say someone decides to overstep their bounds and make some kind of mean unoriginal comment, I have enough self control to not punch them in the mouth as they deserve. Said self control I might add is only for my benefit if I could get away with smacking around every insecure sub human that likes to screw with people I would. I know however that these type of cowards are the first to sue.

Now on to the lazy myth, I and damn near every other obese person I know are actually hard workers. I have never had excessive absenteeism at any job I worked at and my bosses have all loved my work. I make good money, I probably pay more in taxes than most of these small minded fatty haters. I am not better than anyone and neither are you.

I apologize for the tangent, I am just a bit fired up. Some “real winner” felt the need to make a comment to a friend, who is obese, recently at a store. She is an older lady a friend of the families, a great lady who would do anything for you. The fact that someone who I am sure thinks he is a “man” felt the need to go out of his way to hurt someone else, someone who did absolutely nothing to him, frustrates me. I find generally people like this are the ugly (be it inside or out), they can’t stand to look in the mirror so they pick on others to feel better about themselves. Normal people don’t go around commenting on the flaws of others. To be honest the comments don’t bother me I’m immune to it. I usually welcome a battle of wits with an unarmed man. The problem for me, is when it happens to other people. You don’t know them, you don’t know what they have been through just leave fat people alone, and go about you own business.

What is obesity to me? It’s life, it’s something I deal with, and it’s none of your damn business. To people reading this who are also obese, I wish you good luck in this fight with your weight. Remember do it for your health and for more time with the ones you love. Don’t do it cause some jackass called you fat.

One last note I feel this way about any name calling in general however not many speak out for the overweight.
